The World Wide Web Style and Technical Guide will determine the minimal requirements of all pages. It, along with the World Wide Web Policy will help define the contents of pages using computer resources of Dickinson State University. Pages will be divided into two categories. Dickinson State University Official Institutional Pages will include the page for any administrative/academic unit of the university including the Office of the President, Advancement Units (Office of Development and Alumni Relations, Office of Intercollegiate Athletics and Office of University Relations), Business Affairs (Office of Food Services, Office of Computer Services, Office of Facility Operations, Office of Personnel Services and Student Center/University Store), Student Affairs (office of Career Services, Office of Financial Aid, Office of Residential Life, Office of Student Activities, Student Health Service and Student Support Services), Academic Affairs (Office of Admissions and Academic Records, Office of Continuing Education and Office of Library Services), College of Arts and Sciences (Department of Fine Arts, Department of Language and Literature, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Department of Natural Sciences and Department of Social Sciences), College of Education, Business and Applied Sciences (Department of Teacher Education, Department of Health and Physical Education, Department of Business and Management, Department of Agriculture and Technical Studies and Department of Nursing), Student Organizations and any other administrative / academic unit that represents the university. The Dickinson State University Official institutional main page will be developed and updated by the University Relations Office. Any unauthorized changes to the institutional main page will be in violation of this policy. Individual Pages will include the page(s) for any student, staff or faculty member using computer resources of Dickinson State University. Dickinson State University Official Institutional Pages must include the following. I. All Dickinson State University Official Institutional Pages must reside on the Dickinson State University web server http:///www2.dsu.nodak.edu because it is the web server that will be maintained and available continuously. II. In order to identify a Dickinson State University Official Institutional Page the following essential elements must be included. A. In the header, which must appear at the top of each page, the following must be included in the order given. 1. The official Dickinson State University Logo, which is a registered trade mark of Dickinson State University and as such may not be altered. The logo can be linked by http://www2.dsu.nodak.edu/users/images/dsu.gif (Contact computer services or check Dickinson State University main page for address completion.) 2. The Dickinson State University Emblem or Hawk Emblem (optional), which are registered trade marks of Dickinson State University and as such may not be altered. The Dickinson State university emblem can be linked by http://www2.dsu.nodak.edu/users/images/circle.gif and the hawk emblem can be linked by http://www2.dsu.nodak.edu/users/images/hawk.gif . 3. A Link to the Dickinson State University Home Page at http://www2.dsu.nodak.edu and identified as Dickinson State University Home Page. 4. Links to the Previous Page (when one exists) and Home Page, which are each appropriately identified. 5. A Link to the World Wide Web Policy at http://www2.dsu.nodak.edu/policy.aspx and identified as Dickinson State University World Wide Web Policy. B. In the footer, which must appear at the bottom of each page, the following must be included in the order given. 1. A contact identified by the name, address, phone number and e-mail address of the person responsible for the page. 2. The date the page was last updated. 3. A statement of copyright. e.g. (C) 2005 III. The following must also be adhered to in order to have high quality pages. 1. The page must include correct grammar and be devoid of spelling errors. 2. In order to minimize duplication, links must be provided to information that is already on the Dickinson State University web site. This includes items like admission requirements, degrees and majors and the faculty and staff listing directory. 3. Long web pages must include shortcuts to various sections including a link to the top of the page. 4. Web pages must contain links that are operational. 5. Pages must contain links (in addition to the Dickinson State University home page) to other relevant Dickinson State University pages. 6. Use correct names of administrative/academic units within Dickinson State University. For example there is not a Department of Computer Science, but there is a Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and there is a Computer Science Program within that department. A complete listing of administrative/academic units can be found in the Dickinson State University catalog. 7. Do not use large graphics and many graphics. If large graphics are used a warning should be included along with the size of the graphics file. A sample Dickinson State University Official Institution Page can be found at http://www2.dsu.nodak.edu/users/template.html. Individual Pages must include the disclaimer described in part 3 of the footer of section II below and meet the size requirement in part 6 of section III. Individuals are encouraged, however, to include the other items below as components of their home pages. Individual home pages that are used for institutional purposes fall under the guidelines of Dickinson State University Official Institutional Pages. I. Individual page developers are encouraged to use the Dickinson State University web server www.dsu.nodak.edu, because it is the web server that will be maintained and available continuously. II. Dickinson State University and the North Dakota University System bear no responsibility for its contents and their effects in accordance with the Dickinson State University World Wide Web Policy." Alternatively, a link to the Dickinson State World Wide Web Policy with the link identified as "Disclaimer" may be used. (NOTE: One of these disclaimer forms must be included in individual home pages.) III. The following should also be adhered to in order to have high quality pages. 1. The maximum size of each student page on the Dickinson State University web server is 1 Megabyte. The maximum size of each faculty and staff page on the Dickinson State University web server is 2 Megabytes.
