 |
During these annual national conferences, delegates
were able to participate in numerous leadership activities including workshops
by nationally known speakers as well as from Collegiate 4-H members from across
the nation. The delegates then too the ideas they learned during the
conferences back to Dickinson State University and their own home communities.
They used the information teach leadership concepts to younger youth.
Delegates also learned from these workshops and utilized the information to
grow, personally-enriching their own lives, and creating in themselves a better
role model for the youth of today.

During the 2005 National Collegiate 4-H Conference,
the DSU members conducted for "Teambuilding/Effective Communication" workshops.
These workshops taught college students new and interesting skills to take back
to their clubs and to 4-H'ers in their state. One of our members, Tina
Hirsch, served as the National Action Board secretary.

 |
Fundraising activities included: work at
concessions for DSU and Dickinson area athletic events, Herberger's Community
Day, and Schwan ice cream.
|
 |
Examples of 2005 activities include: co-sponsored
the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life," participated in Adopt-A-Highway,
and sponsored a Plowboy Prom for the DSU students. Collegiate 4-H members
taught sessions for the eight-county Youth Activity Day (including the story of
cookies and animal activities) and held "Old McDonald's Farm."
|
 |
January 2006, six members of DSU Collegiate 4-H

at the eight-county Youth Activity Day in New England, ND.

Currently, members are working with South Dakota
State University to plan the North Central Regional Collegiate 4-H Conference
which will be held in Rapid City, SD, October 20-22, 2006.

 |
It is evident that Collegiate 4-H concentrates on
community service learning and leadership. Members strive to help youth
become better leaders, speakers, thinkers, and participate in a wide variety of
events.
