Five of the best resources on Judaism are the Jerusalem One Server ( Jerusalem One (Gopher) and Jerusalem One (WWW), the Shamash Project (and its web Web site include a variety of religious texts, the Project Judaica Foundation, Jewish Resources on the Internet, and, finally, the Social Studies School Service Holocaust Learning Materials. Numerous sites support discussion lists that discuss a broad range of Jewish topics - there are over 100 different Jewish discussion lists on the Internet. A good beginning can be made through the Jewishnet which includes refernces to many lists.
For those seeking information about the state of Israel, I would recommend the U.S. Army Area Handbook on Israel, the Encyclopedia entry for Israel, and the CIA World Factbook all provide basic overviews of Israel in political, geographic, demographic, and historical terms. Specific information about Israel's trade relations with other nations can be obtained from the U.S. Department of Commerce's STAT-USA Gopher as well as from the U.S. State Department's Background Notes on Israel. In addition, there are also numerous links with various branches of the Israeli goverment, for example, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israel Government Server. Closer looks into the nature of everyday life and local politics in Israel can be found at Gateway to Galilee and one of the local kibbutzes, namely Kibbutz Lavi (or if you'd like to try life on a kibbutz yourself contact the Kibbutz Programs office in New York), the Golan Heights, and at Hebron. On a more official note, you could also tap the The Embassy of Israel in Ottawa, Canada, for daily information about events in the Israel and the Middle East.
As for Israeli politics, there are direct and indirect approaches to Israeli politics. On the direct side, there is the direct link with the Israeli Information Server, Likud and MAPAM. Indirect approaches, however, are more revealing although more time consuming. The best indirect approaches are gleamed through the news media, for example, The Guardian of Israel, Jerusalem Post (one of the better newspapers), and Jerusalem One's own sources.
Within the North America, there are a number of resoucres dealing with events related to Jews and Judaism. The Jewish Review out of Portland, Philadeplphia's Jewish Exponent, Jewish News Links, and the biweekly Jerusalem Report are but a few examples.
