12-6-93 Economics 106 M-10:00 F. Quijano

Comments:

Fernando is an excellent instructor. He teaches with enthusiasm, is caring and available for helping students. You can tell he enjoys his profession. We are lucky to have him in the School of Business department because he is truly an asset. I have only one suggestion. For a hundred level course, this class seems to be deeper than usual. Fernando teaches it well, but

this may be an item to review.

If there was a student he liked in class who did poorly on a quiz he would "curve" their grade to make sure He/she would get an A in the class. If a student was doing poorly throughout the course he would make a test really hard so they would flunk and have to drop his class. He taught this course like a 300 or 400 level class & if someone wasn't catching on he would treat him/her like shit. Sometimes he acted like an asshole. He's a good teacher but sometimes he goes on a rampage to make this class hard.

This course was very difficult to understand, I believe Mr. Quijano tries very hard, but he understands it well and forgets we don't. I have learned a lot about economics this semester, I just have not understood all of it. I believe this course needs to be taught slower to understand it better.

I feel that the instructor treated some students better than others. He spent class time talking about subjects that did not apply to the class. He could be an effective teacher if he didn't make the students feel stupid when answering questions in class.

I fell Fernando Quijano is very knowledgeable regarding Economics and the world around us. Economics 106 is a very interesting course buy may be more advance than a 100 level.

Economics was a class which I enjoyed this semester. I enjoyed it because Fernando Quijano made the class fun. I believe Mr. Quijano is a very good teacher that respects his students and makes class discussions and requirements clear to students.

I think this class was thoroughly taught by Mr. Quijano. His lectures are clear and insightful and point out some of the everyday applications of Economics. The course is not an easy one by any means and challenges even the brightest students. I do feel that the grading system should have been consistent on all tests. Curve them all or curve none. I don't think asking us to Quiz on uncovered material is too out of line, but it probably should have been a quiz not a test format. I feel I have learned a great deal more form this Macro class than micro. I do agree with Mr. Quijano that there is not enough class participation, Question asking by students. Something students can work on.

The problem I had in this class was interpreting what the text was trying to say. The text was hard to understand, and when the instructor explained during class it seemed like a different explanation then the text gave. Fernando Quijano did an excellent job instructing the class. After his explanations it was easier to understand. But his test seemed to confuse me all over again. I would need to read the question 3 or 4 times to find out what exactly the question wanted.

The instructor was very good about helping students who asked for help.

He made an exceptional effort to remember students names and treat them as people.

I feel the instructor did a great job teaching this course. It was quite a bit of work overall, but I have learned a lot more about macroeconomics then I thought I ever would!

I enjoyed taking Economics 106 from Fernando Quijano. He is a great teacher, one of the best at Dickinson State. He teaches a tough subject but he teaches it well and makes it easy to learn form the way he lectures. He is very organized and treats us all with respect.

I feel this course was very informative and well taught. I think I got a lot out of it. I really liked Mr. Quijano teaching style. I could understand him and the material very well. I found the course to by interesting and fun because of Mr. Quijano's teaching style. I'd take it again.

Mr. Quijano is an effective teacher and he is very knowledgeable in the field of Economics. It was not only informing, it was exciting to take this class from him. He really loves economics and he does his best to try to relay that enthusiasm to his students.

This course was very interesting although economics inherently has limited usefulness in the real world. Fernando is a good instructor. He keeps his class interesting and fun.

Fernando is a great instructor with a lot of enthusiasm for his classes. He knows economics inside and out & tries to het his students excited about it too. My only complaint is that this is a 100 level class and the work required to do well in this class is a lot more than most 100 level classes. I spent more time on the work for this class than I do for my 300 & 400 level math classes. I would strongly suggest that the class be changed to an upper level class.

I felt this course was tough. It does take a lot more time than some of the other courses. But I also feel I learned a lot about the economy and how it works.

Mr. Quijano was always very willing to help one on one outside of class. He helped me several times outside of class. Overall I think it was a good course, but tough.

I thought Fernando was an excellent teacher. He not only taught the class well but, make it fun to be in. He tried to use everyday happening for examples, so it was easy to understand. If I take micro economics it will be from Fernando.

I like this teacher so much I will take Econ 107 from him next semester. He is real easy to take notes from and the notes have most of the information on the test.

I feel this instructor is very knowledgeable of the topics he teaches the class. One thing he could do different is give various assign. Off and on so your grade isn't determined by your test scores and you get a chance to better it.

This Instructor was quite tuff. The tests were hard & complicate. Although he know what he was talking about. The portfolio is a good idea, as it gets the students to think & read more on the economy. Although it was hard to find things to put in the portfolio sometimes. Not all of the students had access to such sources.

I would have liked to have the theory related more to real situation vice strictly theory. It is very hard to correlate the models & graphs to real life without some specifics. The text was slightly better than useless. At times and especially in exams it is hard to tell what the instructor is looking for in a correct response. Overall the course & instructor were very informative and educational and I'm glad I took the course.

The instructor was always available and willing to help students who didn't understand the material. He took the extra time for on-to-one student basis in the class

He is a very enthusiastic instructor who had a very thorough knowledge of Economics and its concepts. I would definitely take another course from this instructor!!

The instructor was well-knowledgeable on the concepts that he presented to the class & kept up-to-date on changes in the economy. I enjoyed his lectures because not only were they educational, but sometimes entertaining as well. The only thing that I thought was unfair is his grading policy of "favoring" students who have never missed a class. Some of us have never missed a class except for legitimate reasons (Sports) and we are told that we won't be penalized because we miss school on account of athletics. Other than that I really enjoyed this class and feel like I've gained a great deal of knowledge from it. I am now more in tune to the daily changes in our nation's economy.

I felt that this is a difficult course for some. I think the instructor covered the material in a complete manner. I feel the tests were too hard. The instructor was always available for help and patient while helping. I did not find him difficult to deal with. He is an enthusiastic teacher who makes the class periods as interesting as possible considering the subject.
