FERNANDO QUIJANO ECON201 SPRING92
I found the course to be very challenging. It was difficult to follow sometimes, as a lot of the
material covered was new to me. I had to put more effort into this class than any other class I
have taken so fat. This is good though, as I feel I have learned a great deal from Mr. Quijano. He
forces you to think about the material and develop a strong understanding of it. Most teachers
don't do this with students. They just have you memorize things without really understanding
them, when this happens you forget everything very quickly. With Mr. Quijano, I have aquired a
strong background in the study of economics. He has taught me valuable lessons and information
which will stay with me and help me later on. The best part of it all is that I had fun learning in
his class. He is a very interesting person, and shares his stories and examples with the class. This
makes it a great environment for teaching and learning. Overall, I am very impressed with Mr.
Quijano.
Although this might sound like brown-nosing, I can truthfully say that I have never enjoyed a
class as much as Mr. Quijano's Economics class. I am not an economics major, have never taken
an Econ class before, and never liked economics before, but Mr. Q. made his class very
interesting with his unique sense of humor and style. (He could maybe teach another
course-STAND UP COMEDY 101) He made a class that had the potential to be lethally boring
into the only class I had this semester that I really looked forward to. Give him a raise.
This course could be the best taught course I've had outside my major. I felt he did an excellent
job in presenting the material not only in clear and fairly simple terms, but also tried to spark the
interest of the students. He obviously knows economics with a plus as a good teacher.
Despite my lack of interest in this class, I do believe it was a valuable course to take. I think that
if I had put a little more effort into my study habits. I would have done much better than I am. He
did made a boring subject interesting and I fear the only cause for my low grade is myself. I only
hope the instructor for Econ 202 is as good as he is.
Economics 201 with Mr. Quijano proved to be very beneficial to my college education. The material was definitely difficult, but I feel that Mr. Quijano had such a wonderful grasp of the material and he was so excited about it that I had a fun time learning it.
Mr. Quijano related economics to real life situations which made it easier to learn. He was also a very nice guy that would answer any questions you might have had without making you feel dumb. Plus, he was always around to answer questions.
I just can not say enough about how great of a instructor he was. If I had to take another course in
Economics, it would definitely be from him!
This class has helped me to better understand the ideas behind Microeconomics. I think this class has been very beneficial for me more than I had expected. Mr. Quijano used, on several occasions, examples that were easy to relate to. Mr. Quijano also provided the students with individual help, making sure that we understood the material. He also showed his concern for his students by taking the time after lecture to ask if everything was understood.
Mr. Quijano could have been a little more flexible on the schedule because at times there was a
lot of material to know. I guess in the long run though it was best for him to be so persistent.
Mr. Quijano is an excellent instructor. He has a lot of knowledge in this field and conveys the
information well too. When I signed up for the class I thought I would hate it, might even drop it.
But Mr. Quijano made economics fun and even interesting. He would always be there when you
needed extra help or available by calling him. He was always smiling, never down. He would
even lighten the mood with jokes. I am thoroughly impressed with Mr. Quijano.
I feel Fernando was a very interesting and entertaining teacher that had a thorough gasp or
economics, and made it appealing in the classroom!
Mr. Quijano's knowledge of economics and his way of conveying the various topics to his
students is excellent. I will get an A in this course and by far learned a great deal more than any
other course I was enrolled in. I have, however, one criticism. The various relationships exploited
in graphs could have been shown a little more as to attain a grasp on the understanding of the relationships.
This is the third time I have taken this class and it is the first time I understand Economics and its
dynamics. I have dropped twice because I could not understand the other teacher and their
methods. I am now earning a B with Prof. Quijano and fear that if it wasn't for him I would have
had to find a major in which Econ. Was not a required course.
I thought Fernando's classes were interesting and enjoyable. He took subject matter that could be
difficult to understand and made it easy by relating the material to subjects we could understand
and relate to. He also made class enjoyable by conducting his class in a light-hearted manner,
cracking jokes and having fun, yet stressing the importance of the material at hand. If given the
opportunity to have Fernando as a teacher again, I would not hesitate to do so.
I feel the lecture I received from this class were very good. I didn't think that the second test
should have had a 40% weight on it. The course needs to be more evened out in that respect. But
all in all I would recommend the teacher and would like to have him in future classes.
There were a few areas of haziness during his class where it seemed no-one could quite
comprehend what he was trying to explain. Aside from these moments, Fernando is an excellent
teacher with a great sense of humor, which could be used a little more often.
I feel Mr. Quijano did an excellent job of teaching us the principles of Microeconomics. He
knows his stuff and can explain it in a manner where the students can comprehend it.
I guess I feel Mr. Quijano knows the material well, but I wonder if it was presented clearly. I'm
not speaking of his accent, but rather how the topics were explained. This is an INTRO course,
but I'd never be able to tell is Mr. Quijano hadn't said so. The material is so in depth and lacks
any realistic application. Perhaps it would be better to teach topics and then relate them to
something students are familiar with, rather than just smattering of MC,ATC,FC,AFC, graphs,
etc. It is also difficult to answer test question when the terminology runs your mind in circles.
Mr. Quijano does a very good job in teaching Econ 201. He explains material well, course the material in the syllabus and returns exams promptly.
The one negative is the fact that his questions on exams are complicated to understand and exams
are harder then they should be.
Prof. Quijano has made a extremely boring class of Exonomics enjoyable because of his sense of humor. He clearly wants the student to learn and ask questions if things are unclear.
Despite my low grade in the class, which was entirely my fault, the class has been a pleasureable
learning experience. He is definitely enjoys teaching which shows everyday.
The course was well paced and the tests covered all of the material. Mr. Quijano covered all the
topics completely and spend enough time on teach topic to make sure we understood the material.
I'm very much impressed by the teacher's teaching.
All-in-all, this was a satisfying addition to my academics career.
I am happy with the way this course was taught. I think I gained a good understanding of
economics and am now ready to move on to higher level classes.
This instructor keeps the attention of the students well in class because of his humor and ability
to relate to the students.
I feel sometimes the teacher for this course was difficult to understand and went in circles when
he was giving notes. But mostly, I feel that he taught very well and prepared us well for the tests.
In addition I wanted to express by disdain in the fact that there were only 3 tests. There was too
much material to learn each one.
Mr. Quijano showed enthusiasm in teaching the course and did a good job @ keeping his class
involved and interested. He made a point to ensure that the material was understood and was
open for class discussion and questions. I was impressed w/ Mr. Quijanos instruction.
The course is adequately run, but I thought the tests were a little to difficult for a zoo level
course. The course was an introductory course that was made harder than it should have been. I
am not an economics major or a Business, yet I needed this course and it hurt by G.P.A.
Dr. Quijano is an excellent teacher. I feel that he really enjoyes teaching and likes his students to
learn the material enthusiastically. He spells out everything you need to know, and if you go to
class everyday you will do very well in the course. He adds some humor which lightens the
course up when you are in a 1 1/2 hour class. Overall, I am impressed by his teaching performances.
I really enjoyed taking Economics 201 with Mr. Quijano. He is extremely knowledgeable in the
field of Economics making it easy to learn. He is an enthusiastic teacher who adds humor to
lighten his lectures. It was a pleasure taking the course under his instructions.
Speaking as a student, I have the utmost respect for professor Quijano. He not only made class
education, but included humor and all around fun in the process.
Mr. Quijano was a very well-prepared and interesting instructor. He knew the material very well
and explained it thoroughly. He also forced us to think and analyze things, which is good because
I don't think we don't do that enough. All in all, I learned a lot from Mr. Quijano and was
impressed by his teaching.
I feel that Dr. Quijano has a very thourough knowledge of economics and is able to communicate
with the students at their level. When I first signed up for economics. I thought it would be very
dull, But Dr. Quijano changed by perceptions of the course.
Aside some isolated moments, the material being explained by Mr. Quijano was very clearly
states. From the lectures it is quite obvious that he has a strong grasp of the subject matter. His
lectures were both informative and entertaining. Not entertaining in an amusing sense, but more
in the light of keeping the class interested and avoiding bordum by throwing bits of humor here
and there. All in all this class was taught very well.
I feel the teacher was very knowledgeable about his subject and presented it well. Although a few
of the problems I had were that he wasn't available a lot of the times when he was supposed to.
Being in Econ. Before I found it quite difficult even now. Over all the professor did a great job.
