In the beginning I didn't like the course. Class participation was a big portion of the grade. He
obviously is very knowledgeable in this area. He later changed the format for the course and it
became more enjoyable. When I didn't feel so much pressure to participate I was more able to
enjoy the class. Because Me. Quijano know so much on the subject it was a difficult course. He
is very enthusiastic.
The only thing I don't understand is the reason for this being a 300 level class when it is an introductory to management.
As for teaching, Mr. Quijano really applies himself. The amount of time he spends preparing for class really shows. He also actually cares about the students learning and grasping what is being taught.
The only hard part for me was the skipping from lecturing & note taking, to following on the
overhead. Too much back & forth. I learned a lot more from the lecture style than in the
beginning with class discussion.
Mr. Quijano taught this class well. When his way of teaching the class was not going well, he
structured the class the way it would work. He tried different methods of teaching the class and
finally one worked. His respect for the student was outstanding. He listened to each and every
idea that faced him. He encouraged every-one to learn.
I learned a lot from this class. It was very helpful, and should help me be what I want to be in
future. Learned a lot.
The course got off to a shaky start but after a short period things started to run smoothly. Mr.
Quijano related well to the students and was very enthusiastic in his discussions. I felt that I
learned very much in this class.
When I signed up for this class, I had no knowledge of what management entailed. I have
learned a lot. I thing the instructor is very knowledgeable in economics. He bends over
backwards to make a difficult course easier to understand. I think the major concern of any class,
whether it is a 100 class, a 200 class, a 300 class or a 400 class, should be to teach the students so
they can walk out of the class with knowledge which can be used in daily living. I, if ever any a
management position, have a much better concept of the purpose, interaction and concepts of
good management. It is my intention to take micro and macro from Mr. Quijano. He has a
terrific personality, interjects humor, makes the class interesting and is an educator who give the
benifit of the doubt. I think a management course of some sort should be a part of the course of
study for every career-there are too many people in management positions who haven't the
foggiest idea how to manage.
This course has taught me things about organization management, which I never really
understood. The knowledge that this class gives you, should help in future jobs. I enjoyed this
class very much.
I thought Mr. Quijano did a good job of teaching this course and getting across to us the information we needed. He presented it, for the most part, in a way that was interesting, yet still prepared us for the tests. The tests seemed fair to me.
The only suggestion I can make for improving this course is to prepare the students better for the discussions. He should let them know ahead of time what he wants them to get out of the material. I think this would improve the discussion sessions because everyone would be a able to prepare for the same discussion.
I really learned a lot in this course and hope to have Fernando for an instructor again.
I think that Mr. Quijano is a good teacher, constantly trying to motivate the students. In the
beginning of the year he was hard on the class-we weren't sure of his expectations and he was
frustrated with us. As the year progressed, Mr. Quijano became more patient with the class and
let us know more of what he expected out of us. I really enjoyed Mr. Quijano as a teacher, he
made me want to learn. I will be enthusiastic to take another class from him next semester.
At the beginning of the semester, I think Mr. Quijano was a litter unfair to the students in this class. He really chewed us out because the class didn't perform well in the format he had originally planned to hold the class in.
I don't think the class's performance or lack of performance was entirely our fault. The original format of the class wasn't comfortable for all students & Fernando didn't lead the class in the right direction either.
Once the class went back to a lecture style class, things went better. From that point forward, Fernando did teach well & tried to make the class a learning experience for all of us.
He makes students work for the grade they receive & you definitely don't walk away from his
class without learning anything.
Mr. Quijano obviously enjoys teaching; his enthusiasm and knowledge of the subject made this
rather tough class more enjoyable. I found his grading system to be fair and motivational. I
really appreciate Mr. Quijano's desire that his students do well; he was very understanding and
easy to talk to if consultation was needed. His tests are difficult! He demands the best the
student can give!
#3. The instructor on two occasions spent twenty minutes telling the whole class how much they weren't getting the material. Through the lecture there was no referance to how the class could better understand. He also told one student, he was flunking in front of the whole class.
#2. I do not believe the summary overview forms were a good indicater of how well the material was understood. A majority of the grading was on neatness and english. In all the sheets there were no comments on the content; however, regardless of the readers grade. I did not get a good grade. My question is how do I improve with no feedback?
The instructor has repeatedly told the class he doesn't lek teaching the class-Maybe it's time he
stops teaching this class.
I felt Quijano likes what he is doing and wants to do a good job, but I did no like this class or the
way it way taught. I felt very uncomfortable coming to class everyday. I think he could improve
on why by thinking on our level for assignments.
