FERNANDO QUIJANO BUSA355 SPRING95
I think Fernando is a very bright and enthusiastic instructor. I have no problem with Fernando. I do have a problem with DSU. I
signed up for this course because Mark Pulz was going to teach it. At the last minute the Instructors were changed and I could not
change my schedule. So if any one is to blame for what is going on between Fernando and the students it should be the
administration, Fernando did not have a good preparation for this course. As I said before Fernando is an excellent Instructor.
Since this was a class taught by Mr. Quijano on short notice, he wasn't prepared as his other classes. Therefore, he shouldn't be held
totally responsible for other students discomfort and complaints. I feel he's a good teacher and knows his stuff.
Mr. Quijano needs respect students. He dwells on the negatives and not the positives of a person. I feel our grades were based on the
smart people and not individually. I recommend he writes down and stick to project requirement, instead of telling us how to do one
way, then changing his mind the next day. Americans are not any lazier than Colombians!
I really enjoy Fernando as an instructor, he is really enthusiastic and knows what he is talking about. I know a lot of people have
complained about him this semester and Yes, I agree that he was tough , but, in my opinion, that's the way it should be! And they
also have to consider the little amount of preparation he had for this class and that it was his first semester teaching this class. I feel
that he had a tough job to do, but did it as well as he could!
Grading never stays the same. The instructor is negative toward students and disrespectful and unprofessional.
I think the course was taught well, and I agree with the presentation assignment. However, the group project was not necessarily fair.
The bulk of the work ended up picking on one person.
I learned a lot, well taught. Enjoy the class.
I wouldn't take another course because I dislike Economics.
I think the instructor was very enthusiastic and had great knowledge of the subject.
1. Mr. Quijano has several times called us stupid.
2. He has several times called Americans stupid.
3. He has wasted class time to the point of not being able to cover whole chapters; by talking about his life. Also spending time explaining his name.
4. He has several times mentioned that he is smarter and better then us.
5. Mr. Quijano treats selected students unfairly.
6. Very often he came to class late and would also keep us past ending time.
7. Female students are second rate.
8. He has changed grading of projects several times.
9. During group presentations of chapter of our book, he has treated us unfairly. He gave us no guidelines for this presentation After the first presentation he called it boring, and at this time if we showed up to each presentation we received 100% for this project. After 2nd presentation, when class was dismissed. Mr. Quijano was heard telling his favorite male students that our presentations were terrible, a comment I feel that should not have been said to this students. (From this point on I will call this students x)
My group was ready to present it's chapter and Mr. Quijano asked to speak to the class.
He then said that complaints has been made "over his head" about the class and he wanted to know how we felt about the current project, our group said they didn't like it. He then took our presentation apart and embarrassed us unfairly in front of the class. During the presentations before us he said nothing and during th presentations after us he said nothing about their presentations, he even questioned our grammar errors, and said nothing to the other groups about their errors.
We were treated unfair because we spoke out against him.
When Mr. Quijano's favorite student Mr. x's group spoke, he was extremely attentitive. When Mr. x presented his section we could not understand what he was talking about. Mr. Quijano then stood up and then said " Because Mr. x is the brightest student in this class I feel I can ask him this question."
Several members in the class were shocked by this comment. I feel the comment was not needed and it confirmed his earlier comments on us being stupid.
When presentations were finished he told us that because Mr. x have such an excellent presentation that our presentation grade was not going to be based on his presentation.
We were no longer going to be given 100%, we were going to be graded on someone's work. This is unfair. My grade should not be based on Mr. x's ability. Our group is not the best, but we gave it our best.
During the second to the last day of class he (Mr. Quijano) walked into class and said "Good Morning." (The first time all semester). He then said that, " students in this class are trying to get rid of me, when you do the evaluation please, please-be kind to me. Look at the positive." This comment should have not been made, he has been unfair to us all semester and he has the nerve to ask that we lie about our feelings.
His grading procedure concerning the presentations is wrong and should be changed.
The complaints that I have against Mr. Quijano have nothing to do with my current grade. My complaints are with his comments. These comments have no place and told me her teacher had made these comments, I would complain.
Just because we are in college we should not have to put up with this behavior.
In this class it is not what's your grade is, it's are you on his good side or his bad side. Several people are more concerned about staying on his good side then telling him he is unfair. This is wrong. I am on his bad side. I have been on that bad side several weeks. In fact most of my group is on his bad side, and they are concerned about graduation.
Mr. Quijano knows what he is talking about but his ability to teach it fairly and correctly is a problem.
Also enclosed is a copy of the syllabus that Mr. Quijano gave us.
It is highlighted in a spot that is very important. I do not feel that mutual respect has been given.
I was given only a 20 on my grade for presentation. My group received higher grades even thought they were absent from presentation. I came to all presentation and I only received a 20. Mr. Quijano has singled me out because I have spoked out about him. He is being unfair.
Mr. Quijano stated at the beginning of class that if we just smiled we could get a C.
