COURSE
DESCRIPTION: This is an effort on the part of Dickinson State University in cooperation with the teachers in the classrooms to provide the second-year secondary student with the opportunity to observe the real world of teaching. It is necessary that we provide our students with an early look into the teaching profession before they find themselves well into the program and discover, much to their surprise, that they have selected an endeavor that does not fit their needs or the needs of the profession.
The students may be assigned to a supervising teacher outside of their chosen field. We feel it is important that a student observe and assist in a classroom so that they will have a better idea of a teacher's duties and responsibilities.
Our second-year secondary students will be assigned to a classroom for 30 clock hours during the college semester. They will be expected to be punctual. Their attendance is mandatory unless excused by the supervising teacher because of illness or emergency.
Dress should be appropriate at all times. Blue jeans are not considered appropriate dress.
Grades: The grade for this class is either a S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory). The grade will be determined by the completion of the requisite number of hours and the final evaluation by the cooperating teacher. A recommendation, by the cooperating teacher, of questionable or not recommended or less than 30 hours will result in a grade of U.
