The Baker's Wife

by Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein

At least the bickering residents of a rural French village can enjoy the heavenly bread of their new baker. But when a handsome lothario tries to lure away the baker's attractive young wife, the baker loses all zest for life and for baking, and the villagers must band together to help. This bittersweet and gentle musical tale of love, lust, and forgiveness is brimming with old world charm. Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Children of Eden, and Wicked) composed the richly romantic music, and Stein (Fiddler on the Roof) wrote the comic and worldly wise book.

The Dead Guy

by Eric Coble

At first, it seemed harmless enough. But Reality TV has taken over prime time television. Marriage, talent, beauty, weight -- no topic is sacred. The fad seems to mock our very humanity. Now, Eric Coble gives us a new play that dares to mock the fad. Imagine a show which offers impoverished contestants the chance to become millionaires, but only if they will agree to being killed after just one week. Do you think anyone would accept the offer? Do you think any TV producer would carry out the death sentence?

Is He Dead?

by Mark Twain as adapted by David Ives

Jean-Francois Millet is a brilliant but unrecognized artist who can't sell a painting to save his life. With the help of his madcap bohemian friends, Jean decides to stage his own demise to revive sales. However, in order to keep an eye on his success, he re-animates in a most delightful way. Authored by Twain in 1898, this play was recently discovered by Shelley Fisher Fishkin and updated by David Ives. Join us for a farce that will have you laughing loud enough to wake the dead.

Mauritius

by Theresa Rebeck

Stamp collecting is far more risky than you might think. After their mother's death, two estranged half-sisters discover a book of rare stamps that may include several priceless items. One sister tries to pocket the windfall, while the other resists for sentimental reasons. In this gripping tale, a seemingly simple sale becomes dangerous when three high-stakes collectors complicate the process, willing to do anything to claim the rare find as their own.
